The Deceiver

O, the great deceiver!
Always are you the receiver
But never is she the believer
I try, but cannot perceive her

Does your conscience know no bounds?
Constantly making your rounds
Searching endlessly for golden mounds
You are a friend to hounds

No shortage of jealousy here
But do not think that we’re
Trustworthy behind this leer
Someday we may end your career

But no, for you are sly
Who could ever believe such a lie?
Your heart is not reflected in your eye
Your tongue coaxes, “Surely, not I”

Could any spell beset your ways?
When tears cause her eyes to glaze
It is then that your banner is raised
And she is yours for all your days

The deception you have wrought
Makes it impossible for you to be caught
To be honorable is a vile thought
What motivation is there to do what you ought?

But, deceiver, beware
Because even if she never cares
Karma will be there
And you will not be hers to share
